Mrs Klein

Mrs Klein

The Tower Theatre presents

Mrs Klein by Nicholas Wright

Directed by Jonathan Lermit

Mrs Klein loses her son tragically, but loses her daughter, Melitta, with a fierce deliberation. Melitta brings her own calculated malice to the parting. Her friend, Paula, is perhaps not as guileless as she appears. Maybe all is not as straightforward as it seems.

Nothing is simple : all three are psychoanalysts. Melanie Klein is the pioneer developing Freud’s psychoanalytical theories into interpretation of play for the treatment of disturbed children. Nothing is said by anyone without the subconscious implications being analysed and weighed – "Mother, it isn't a penis. It's a 1927 Sunbeam". This is a battle of wills between three fierce and determined women that is sharp and funny, triumphant and sad.
