Little Nell

by Simon Gray

Directed by Simona HughesIn his lifetime, Charles Dickens was possibly the world's most famous man. However, he kept a closely guarded secret : his longstanding love affair with actress Ellen Ternan. 28 years his junior, Ellen was just 17 when they met. Their relationship ended 13 years later with Dickens' death, leaving Ellen no option but to reinvent herself in order to remarry and lead a "normal" life.

This moving, powerful and provocative piece tells Ellen's story both from her point of view, and from the perspective of her son, who, some 50 years later, decides to uncover the true nature of his mother's relationship with her "godfather" Charles Dickens.
