An Enemy of the People

An Enemy of the People

Tower Theatre will be presenting this classic play, originally by Henrik Ibsen in a new version by Rebecca Lenkiewicz and directed by Ian Hoare.

A respected doctor in a would-be spa town, Thomas Stockmann, decides to expose a water pollution scandal. He quickly comes into explosive conflict with the local citizenry, including the press, the business community and the mayor - who is his brother.

An Enemy of the People, which was reputedly the inspiration for Jaws, is a fierce political, moral and psychological drama with a cutting satirical edge. It was written in 1882, but Ibsen's genius was never more prophetic: the play is startlingly resonant in the current era of 'posttruth' politics, resurgent populism and high-profile whistleblowers.
